Foundation Approves Grant Proposal for Funding
(Alexandria, VA) The American Therapeutic Recreation
Foundation (ATRF) recently announced the approval
of funds for an exciting new research grant.
The proposal, “Intergenerational Programming:
Through the Generations” by Karen Tomasello
of the Florida Gulf Coast Center for Positive Aging
has been selected to receive full funding. Tomasello’s
grant proposal was described as well developed and
its quality and consistency reflect ATRF research
funding priorities for evidence-based practice. One
of the grant reviewers commented “This project
has the potential to make a significant contribution
to the evidence based efficacy research for the field.”
According to GT Thompson, Chair
of the Foundation, “Tomasello’s
commitment to the recreational therapy profession
and her work with senior adults is to be commended.
The Foundation is pleased to support this research
effort”
The American Therapeutic Recreation Foundation (ATRF),
a non-profit foundation established in 1992 by the
American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)
is dedicated to advancing the field of therapeutic
recreation and improving the quality of therapeutic
recreation services through the sponsorship of efficacy
research grants. Past grants have studied a variety
of areas including the effectiveness of aquatic therapy
and using recreational therapy interventions for
preventing falls.
