In
the month of September, the Therapeutic Recreation Association of Oklahoma
(TRAO), held it's annual min-year conference. The conference was focused
on advocacy, legislation, and professional participation. G.T. Thompson
was the Keynote speaker. He provided excellent information and provided
a proactive approach to influence the members in the State. Ann Trudgeon,
from the Alliance for Advocacy and Aging, presented a wonderful session
on the Two-Minute Punch - how to present your information to legislators,
senators, directors, CEO's, etc. and get you message heard! Overall,
the conference went very well. TRAO is now in the process of coordinating
and scheduling the annual conference held in the third weekend in February.
This is a two day conference that goes Friday afternoon and all day
Saturday and normally worth at least 1 CEU or more. This is our biggest
event to plan for and provide opportunities for TR's to come together
and network and advocate for the field.
