Team Mission: Increase the presence of Assistive Technology within the profession and the use of Assistive Technology in the practice of Recreation Therapy.

Board Direction Statement 2007: Develop and initiate a plan to identify opportunities for the ATRA membership to advance this specialty area.  Provide knowledge to the membership regarding the values of Assistive Technology in treatment, implementation strategies, and the acquisition of resources needed for the implementation.  This knowledge will be disseminated through educational sessions at ATRA conferences and workshops, ATRA Newsletter articles, and information on the ATRA website.

Assistive Technology Definition:

“Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capacities of individuals with disabilities.”  This includes all adapted recreation and sports devices, as well as everything a CTRS might modify or make to support participation in activities.
