Description of the Network: An information source for ATRA
members who need resources to answer questions and solve
problems related to recreational therapy with geriatric population
and geri-psych population
Settings: Hospitals, sub-acute care, long term care/nursing
homes, supported living facilities, residential facilities,
adult day care, home-based care
Functioning Areas Addressed: Behaviors,
activities of daily living;
psychosocial well-being; quality of life; physical functioning;
cognitive functioning.
Interventions: Behavior management, falls prevention programs,
walking programs, diversional and therapeutic activities,
activity facilitation and adaptation including small and
large group games and activities; special events; reminiscence;
reality orientation; sensory stimulation; exercise; therapeutic
humor; animal assisted therapy; arts and crafts.
Goals & Accomplishments: Our goals are to maintain a
network of resources to provide a variety of expertise regarding
services to senior citizens. We also strive to expand and
maintain an information network, and to increase communication
in the field in order to improve the services provided by
recreational therapists working with geriatric populations.

Can Help You!
The ATRA Geriatric Treatment Network can assist you by:
• Addressing questions related to clinical practice, advocacy,
reimbursement and regulations;
• Networking opportunities with other practitioners on the
GTN bulletin board;
• Providing sample job descriptions;
• Assisting in finding a C.T.R.S. for your facility;
• Directing you to valuable resources;
• Offering information on the latest public policy/regulatory
and reimbursement issues facing LTC;
• Providing Referral forms that you may use in your facility;
and
• Providing examples of physician orders
The ATRA Coverage and Reimbursement team is also available
to assist you with all of your reimbursement issues. There
is a Long Term Care (geriatric) subcommittee that addresses
issues including the MDS, RUGs, Medicare and Medicaid. There
are monthly conference calls and the minutes are posted on
the GTN Bulletin Board on the ATRA website.
