HCFA Releases New Plan for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities Prospective Payment System

The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) released today (April 20, 2001) a notice (in compliance with the Paperwork Reduction of 1995) of a new information collection instrument, entitled "Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility - Patient Assessment Instrument". This newly designed instrument replaces the controversial MDS PAC instrument previously announced by HCFA.

The new Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility - Patient Assessment Instrument is three pages in length, with 54 items for data collection. The instrument makes use of the existing FIM measurement instrument in addition to other quality indicator data elements prioritized by HCFA.
